Rules and Regulations

To enhance everyone’s safety and enjoyment, Salina Turda has established rules that visitors should follow:

  • No smoking: Smoking is prohibited inside the mine for health and safety reasons.
  • Respect the environment: Make sure to dispose of litter responsibly and avoid touching the natural salt formations.
  • Stay within designated areas: Access is restricted to public passages and routes.
  • Supervise children: Keep a close eye on kids, especially in play areas and attractions.
  • Medical permit: Anyone over 65 or under 3 years old needs to present a medical permit to enter. We visited with a 2 1/2-year-old, and although we brought a doctor’s note, the staff never requested to see it.
  • Accessibility: The mine does have elevators in various locations, although I would not advise taking a stroller. There are stairs to descend just to enter the main tunnels, as well as stairs required to reach the elevators. Access with bulky luggage is prohibited as well.

Being aware of these guidelines ensures the preservation and safety of this unique location for all.

What to Wear

The temperature inside the mine generally sits around 10-12°C (50-54°F) year-round. Dressing in layers is sensible, as the temperature makes it feel much colder. Comfortable shoes are a must for navigating various surfaces, some of which can be uneven or even slippery. A light jacket will come in handy if you tend to feel chilly.

Best Time to Visit

Time of Year

Spring and fall are typically the best times to visit due to smaller crowds, allowing for a more intimate experience. However, since it’s an indoor attraction, winter visits are also popular to escape the cold. We visited in December and were one of only a few other people inside the mine. Temperatures inside the mine were actually warmer than outside it so it was a nice place to visit on a cold winter day.

Length of Visit

Dedicate at least 2-3 hours here to truly explore. Engage in the activities, appreciate the views, and soak in the fascinating history without rushing. Each area has its own story waiting to be uncovered.
