From March to May, the weather is mild and pleasant, making it a wonderful time for outdoor activities and exploration. In addition, this time offers fewer crowds as well as more affordable prices.

During March, the average temperature ranges from 10°C to 15°C (50°F to 59°F). While it might still be a bit chilly, the landscapes start to bloom, and you can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere through most tourist areas. Don't miss the enchanting beaches in Saranda and Ksamil, where the warm weather invites you to relax by the shimmering Adriatic waters before the overwhelming crowds arrive in Summer.

May is a perfect month for exploring all Albania has to offer, from hiking trails, ancient ruins, and historical sites, and even the beaches. The weather is pleasant enough for all activities and prices are lower than summer months.

Summer: June to August

For those seeking sun and beach activities, summer is the prime season for visiting Albania. From June to August, the country experiences warm weather, making it perfect for sun-seekers and outdoor enthusiasts.

June

June sees temperatures averaging 26°C to 30°C (79°F to 86°F). The beaches come to life with tourists eager to soak up the sun. The vibrant city of Tirana is also bustling, hosting festivals and events that showcase Albania’s rich culture.

July & August

July and August are peak summer months, where temperatures can soar to 35°C (95°F) or higher. Despite the heat, visitors flock to the coastal cities of Durres and Vlora for their stunning beaches. However, be prepared for crowded tourist spots and higher prices during this period. It's important to book hotels and resorts well in advance to avoid disappointment.

If you’re a fan of nightlife, the coastal towns come alive with music and festivities in the summer months, offering plenty of opportunities for entertainment after a day in the sun. Some popular beach towns include Sarande, Dhermi, Himare, and Ksamil.

Autumn: September to November

As the summer crowds disperse, Albania transforms into a serene paradise during the autumn months. From September to November, the weather is mild, making it perfect for those seeking a quieter experience. An added benefit is that prices begin to decrease now that the peak season has passed.

September

September typically sees temperatures around 24°C to 28°C (75°F to 82°F), making it ideal for beachgoers who still want to enjoy the warm waters, without the crowds and high prices of summer. The natural beauty of Albania remains stunning, and you can explore the beautiful national parks and historical sites such as Butrint and Komani Lake.

October

October brings cooler temperatures ranging from 18°C to 22°C (64°F to 72°F). It’s a great month for hiking, especially in regions like the Albanian Alps, where the autumn foliage paints a stunning picture. Local festivals celebrating the grape harvest and traditional dishes also take place, offering visitors a taste of local culture. For a culturally rich experience, consider visiting the picturesque town of Berat, known for its beautiful Ottoman-style houses and historic castle.

We visited in October and temperatures were cool enough to explore national parks and city sites, yet still warm enough for a swim at the beach. Prices were low and crowds were fewer.

November

By November, temperatures start to drop further, averaging between 10°C to 15°C (50°F to 59°F). While the focus shifts toward indoor activities and cultural exploration, cozy cafes in Tirana and other cities offer a warm atmosphere to enjoy local coffee and pastries. Temperatures may still, however, be pleasant enough for exploring historical sites such as Gjirokastër Castle or Apollonia and may offer a calmer atmosphere without the crowds.

Winter: December to February

Winter in Albania brings a different charm, particularly for adventure seekers and those who appreciate a magical landscape. From December to February, weather conditions vary significantly, especially in the mountainous regions.

December

December is often mild in coastal areas, with temperatures between 2°C to 13°C (36°F to 55°F), but can drop to as low as -5°C (23°F) inland and in the mountains. This makes for great indoor activities such as visiting museums or soaking in the local culture in Tirana, where festive decorations create a magical atmosphere during the holiday season.

Check out the Tirana Christmas market this month, where festive activities and cheer light up the city. You'll find handcrafted goods and products as well as a delicious variety of local food and sweets to try. They may also hold festive events throughout the season.

January & February

January and February are the coldest months, with temperatures dipping slightly from December, ranging from 1°C to 12°C (34°F to 54°F) in coastal regions, and -7°C to 4°C (19°F to 39°F) inland. Snowfall in the Albanian Alps turns the mountains into a winter wonderland, making it an excellent time for skiing and snowboarding. The resort areas of Kolonje and Dardha become popular for winter sports enthusiasts.

Despite the colder weather, visitors can enjoy the tranquility of the landscape, affordable accommodation options, and the opportunity to witness local life away from the frequent tourist trails.

What are the cheapest months to visit Albania?

The cheapest months to visit Albania would be the winter months, followed by spring and autumn, with the most expensive being the summer months. This is because summer months are peak tourism months, where visitors from all over the world come to vacation, especially by the coast.

However, with that said, you can still travel on a budget no matter the time of year, it just may require a bit of advanced planning and negotiation.

Can you visit Albania on a budget?

Of course! Albania is one of the most affordable countries in Europe and in our personal travel experience, the second cheapest of the Balkan countries (only beaten out by Bosnia) - and yes, we've traveled to every Balkan country!

We spent 14 days in Albania with daily average costs for our family of 4 being under USD $100 daily, including our rental car. We rented our car outside of Albania; however, we've found affordable car rental at Tirana airport for as low as € 13 daily. Check Discover Cars!

We rented 1–2-bedroom apartments on Airbnb or booking.com for USD $20 - 30 per night, complete with kitchen, washing machines, and all necessities.

And for food, we usually shopped at local markets and cooked our own meals, however eating out could cost as low as USD $3 per meal depending on where you go and what you order.

We didn't pay for any guided tours, and we found most entry fees to be reasonably priced.

How many days should I spend in Albania?

This is going to depend on what you want to see and do, however, if you want to see all the major historical and natural sites, we recommend a 10–14-day trip. For only a 7-day trip, we would recommend staying in the area of Tirana and taking trips to Kruje, Berat, Apollonia, Gjirokastër, and Durres.

You can check out our 2-week itinerary HERE.

Choosing the best time to visit Albania ultimately depends on your personal preferences and the experiences you seek. Whether you're drawn to the sun-kissed beaches of summer, the blossoming landscapes of spring, the enriching cultural experiences of autumn, or the serene beauty of winter, Albania has something to offer year-round.

Plan your trip according to your interests, and be sure to explore the rich history, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality that make Albania a unique and memorable travel destination. No matter when you arrive, you are sure to take home wonderful memories from this beautiful Balkan paradise.
